Texas Attorney General Paxton is taking legal action against the manufacturers of acetaminophen, alleging the firms concealed safety concerns that the pain reliever created to children's neurological development.

This legal action arrives thirty days after President Donald Trump promoted an unproven link between taking Tylenol - referred to as acetaminophen - throughout gestation and autism spectrum disorder in offspring.

Paxton is taking legal action against Johnson & Johnson, which once produced the medication, the only pain reliever suggested for pregnant women, and Kenvue, which currently produces it.

In a statement, he said they "misled consumers by gaining financially from suffering and marketing drugs ignoring the dangers."

The company states there is lacking scientific proof tying acetaminophen to autism.

"These corporations lied for decades, knowingly endangering countless individuals to line their pockets," the attorney general, a Republican, stated.

Kenvue said in a statement that it was "deeply concerned by the spread of false claims on the security of acetaminophen and the likely effects that could have on the well-being of US mothers and children."

On its official site, the company also stated it had "continuously evaluated the applicable studies and there is lacking reliable evidence that shows a verified association between using paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder."

Groups acting on behalf of physicians and healthcare providers agree.

ACOG has stated paracetamol - the primary component in Tylenol - is one of the few options for pregnant women to manage pain and elevated temperature, which can create serious health risks if ignored.

"In more than two decades of research on the utilization of paracetamol in pregnancy, no reliable research has successfully concluded that the usage of paracetamol in any trimester of pregnancy results in neurological conditions in children," the organization stated.

The court filing cites recent announcements from the previous government in asserting the medication is reportedly hazardous.

Recently, Trump raised alarms from public health officials when he told women during pregnancy to "resist strongly" not to use acetaminophen when sick.

The FDA then released a statement that doctors should contemplate reducing the consumption of Tylenol, while also declaring that "a causal relationship" between the drug and autism spectrum disorder in children has remains unverified.

Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, who manages the FDA, had promised in spring to initiate "a massive testing and research effort" that would establish the cause of autism in a limited time.

But authorities advised that identifying a sole reason of autism - thought by researchers to be the outcome of a intricate combination of genetic and environmental factors - would be difficult.

Autism is a form of permanent neurological difference and condition that affects how people perceive and relate to the surroundings, and is diagnosed using medical professional evaluations.

In his lawsuit, Paxton - a Trump ally who is campaigning for federal office - claims Kenvue and Johnson & Johnson "willfully ignored and sought to suppress the evidence" around acetaminophen and autism.

The lawsuit seeks to make the corporations "remove any commercial messaging" that claims acetaminophen is safe for expectant mothers.

The court case mirrors the complaints of a collection of guardians of young ones with autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who filed suit against the producers of Tylenol in 2022.

Judicial authorities rejected the lawsuit, declaring studies from the family's specialists was lacking definitive proof.
